Expert Batsman

That George Brett has ended up as a bat manufacturer is an interesting twist of life. The Brett Brothers Bat Company in Spokane, Washington produces wooden bats widely used in both amateur and professional play.

George’s success in wielding lumber landed him in Baseball’s Hall of Fame – elected handily in his first year of eligibility with 98% of the votes. Selected as one of the Baseball Writers of America choices, he was inducted in 1999 with other honorees Robin Yount and Nolan Ryan.

George clearly and decisively earned his Cooperstown plaque. Reviewing his highlight stats can refresh your memory of his enthusiasm for playing the game – and his great success on the field, as well.

Just some of Kansas City Royals #5 achievements:

  • 3,154 career hits – ranking 15th on the all-time list
  • 665 career doubles – the fifth best two-base hitter in baseball history
  • 12 years on the All Star team – consecutively from 1976 to 1986
  • American league MVP – 1980

  • 1,119 career extra base hits – ranking eleventh, lifetime
  • Three batting titles – one in each decade: 1976, 1980 and 1990

Another point of pride for George Brett: he played for one team – The Kansas City Royals – throughout his entire 21 year career.
