Upgrade Your Conveying Chain and Reduce Processing Costs

Looking for a way to reduce waste and lower operating costs in your food processing plant?  Maybe it’s time to upgrade your conveying chain.

Reduce Operating Costs

Conveying Chain

Conveyors and conveyor chains are an essential part of any manufacturing line, connecting one process of a line to another—and making production flow smoothly and easily.  Selecting the correct chain can actually help decrease waste, reduce energy and water consumption, and minimize downtime in your food operations, said Chris Plier, North America Product Manager for Rexnord.

The starting point in selecting conveying chains and equipment is understanding the functionality and productivity requirements, then determining the most efficient way to accomplish your goals and objectives, he added.

The popular Rexnord TableTop Chain and MatTop chain are widely used in the food and beverage industry.  While these conveying chains cost a little more upfront, Plier said that in the end, it pays off.

“When you look at the total cost of ownership with a high-quality chain like MatTop or TableTop, it actually saves you money in the long run,” said Plier.  “For example, food and beverage producers want conveyors that keep their product protected, increase productivity, and are flexible enough to work with various parts of the line with as little downtime as possible. Less downtime and less maintenance time mean more products out the door, which is what our food and beverage customers are looking for. ”

End-to-End Solution for Food and Beverage Processing Operations

Rexnord chain is used in a wide variety of food and beverage processing operations, including:

  • Beverage filling and packaging
  • Container manufacturing
  • Fruit and vegetable
  • Snack food
  • Dairy
  • Meat and poultry

“We have thousands of miles of conveyor chain out there in the industry processing food and beverage today,” Plier said.  “Our chain is involved in every step of the process, from beginning to end.”

He adds that MatTop and TableTop Chain are used routinely for:

  • Can and bottle filling
  • Food processing
  • Food packaging
  • Case handling

Types of Chain for Food and Beverage Processing

Rexnord offers two main types of conveying chain for the food and beverage industry with more than 20,000 conveyor chain options and configurations:

  • Rexnord TableTop Chain: single-module, dedicated-width
  • Rexnord MatTop Chain: modular-width, can be configured into a variety of belt widths, surfaces and materials

Rexnord conveyor chain product lines are regulatory-compliant for the food industry, with hygienic designs that are easy to clean and sanitize. Some chains use antimicrobial materials to enhance food safety, and can even be “metal-detectable”—so they’ll be picked up on a metal detector if there’s a failure.

Other options include low-friction and self-lubricating chain, and wearstrip materials that not only protect the conveyed product, but also reduce water and energy consumption.

Fully Customizable to Your Application

Better yet, Rexnord has an entire team of engineers that can customize each chain for almost any specific application—including your specific speed, friction, temperature, and wear requirements. If the conveyor chain is properly selected and the system is properly designed and controlled, it will increase the efficiency of the line.

“There are such a wide variety of materials and attachments available, that we can address almost any need,” Plier said.  “We’ll take the time to understand your specific needs for your application and then we’ll tailor a solution to optimize performance for your environment.”
