Store-Boards Aid in FDA Food Safety Modernization Act

The FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) was signed into law by President Obama on January 4th, 2011. FMSA focuses on contamination prevention, rather than responding to a contamination outbreak.

According to the FDA, prevention controls and inspections and compliance are two of the five key areas of the law. For the first time, the FDA has a legislative mandate to require prevention-based controls in our nation’s food supply. With such controls in place, the FDA will use inspection as a means of holding the food industry accountable.

Store-Boards from Accuform are a great step toward prevention controls for FSMA. At a glance, you can see the tools and supplies that are in their designated storage location. For wash-down environments, equipment can even be cleaned directly on the board.

  • Organize your tools, supplies, equipment, and materials
  • Provide striking, graphical visual point-of-storage for the tools
  • Shadow outlines with words identify where tools should be when not in use
  • Show readily available tools to maintain machinery, equipment, and operations
  • Account for missing tools and equipment, avoiding time wasted looking for and replacing them, and ensuring availability when needed next time

Store-Boards can be used during the 5S process and other lean initiatives to organize tools, equipment and materials. The boards provide a striking visual cue that helps workers account for all tools and equipment in their area.

With outline graphics and words or part numbers for each item, it’s easy for any employee to keep all equipment in its proper place, ensuring it’s available the next time it’s needed.
